New to the site? In this section, we attempt to answer any lingering questions you might have about voting, contributions, or anything of the sort.
Exactly what am I voting on?
When you vote for a character, you're essentially saying how much you like or dislike that character as a whole. You're not
voting only on how the character looks or her personality, but what you think of her as a "complete package". Therefore,
if you think a character is attractive but her personality irritates you, don't give her a 10. A character's ranking is simply
a straight average of the total of that character's votes.
Another thing to avoid: Do NOT vote out of spite for other voters. It's one thing to hate a character because of who they are,
but to give that character a 1 for the sole reason of "balancing out" a ranking you feel is too high is not in line with the spirit
of the site. The same goes for giving a 10 to a character for the sole reason of "balancing out" a ranking you feel is too low.
Why can't I vote for a character more than once?
Simply put, to avoid abuse. You can vote for as many characters as you want, but you can only vote for any particular
character once per day. When the day has passed, you will be able to vote for that character again. This prevents people from giving
hundreds of 1's or 10's to a character they really hate or really love.
Why are characters listed with family names second instead of first?
This was one of the harder decisions to make when first designing the site. The best reason I can give is that when most people think of a character's name
(even Asian people), they will think of the first name first. It is the first name that makes that character distinct and thus easier to find in a large
list of names. When looking for Akane Tendo, "Akane" is where one focuses attention (as opposed to "Tendo") because Nabiki and Kasumi share the same family name.
In addition, some characters either have no family name or it is never revealed (as seems to be the case with Sakaki from Azumanga Daioh).
I see a "Dragon Ball" entry but no "Dragon Ball Z". What gives?
This was another tough decision to make. As is the case with many series, there will be spinoffs, multiple seasons, movies and OAVs based on the original
work, and the like. Dragon Ball Z alone has over a dozen movies. It gets particularly cumbersome to add so many such entries to the database, especially
when the majority of the characters are the same in most of the entries. Thus, with such series, I have chosen to wrap them up in a catch-all title.
"Dragon Ball" refers to the original series, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and all other Dragon Ball-related anime. The same goes for the Tenchi Muyo!
series and all its variants. However, if two series, even if visibly related, are too divergent to put into one entry (e.g. Onegai Teacher and Onegai Twins),
then multiple entries will be made. Whenever appropriate, I will include notes about which variant each character appears in, as well as differences in
character traits between variants (as with the Sasami/Tsunami vs. just Sasami issue in the Tenchi variants). This is really a hit-and-miss, play-it-by-ear
policy, so don't expect any consistency between the decisions I make. Such is life.
Hey, you spelled/described something wrong! You forgot a character/series!
Thank you for noticing, because stuff always slips through the cracks. Use the e-mail link at the top of the page to let us know. If
we've missed any character or series, let us know by using the Make a Request section. Keep in mind, however,
that only female characters are allowed, and only if they play a significant role in the anime (or if they don't, they still make a
mark upon the series). Nearly all valid requests will be honored, but there is no guarantee as to how quickly they will be fulfilled.
On the subject of whether or not to use English or Japanese names, decisions are made on a case by case basis. I lean towards using Japanese names
and titles whenever I can, and when possible I will include English names as well. The general rule is as follows: If the series is licensed, use
the officially licensed title and character names. This means if the release is dub only, use the dub title and character names, and if the release
is sub only, use the sub title and character names. If there are both sub and dub releases, use the sub title and character names. If the series is
not licensed, use the Japanese title and character names. (They will be changed appropriately if/when the series is licensed.)
Can I be on staff? Can I contribute pictures and descriptions?
Sorry, but I hand-pick staff for the site from people I already know. You can, however, contribute to the site if you wish. In time, I will
have worked out a system for that, as well as a credits page to give credit to non-staff submissions we receive.
