Rose Parade of an Update

by Panadero - March 25, 2012 2:20:52 PM MST

The theme for today's update is roses, and we have twenty one new characters from four new series for your consideration.

First is the seminal The Rose of Versailles, a classic series about Oscar - a female who was raised as a male - and her duty protecting the French royal family. Excellently written and full of fun melodrama, I enjoyed the series thoroughly.

Next is the strange Don Dracula, the Osamu Tezuka comedy series about Count Dracula (who charms women with his charisma and of course roses) and his daughter relocating to Japan. Lasting only eight episodes before the sponsoring company went bankrupt, my favorite thing about the series was the daughter's voice being done by Saeko Shimazu, the voice of my beloved Shinobu from Urusei Yatsura.

Third is Koe de Oshigoto! a surprisingly graphic but also super enjoyable OAV about an innocent rosebud of a girl working as a voice actress for an adult games company. Definitely not for children, but full of more heart than I expected.

Last is the incredible Ashita no Nadja, a relatively recent series (2003) that feels like the classic shoujo shows of the past, in which a resourceful young girl pulls herself up by the bootstraps, sees the world, falls in love, and meets a mysterious thief named the Black Rose. Nadja's quest for her mother while traveling with a performing troupe is a wonderful series that all shoujo fans should see.

Work is progressing well on AGR Version 2 but as you can see, content for the existing site hasn't been put on hold. More to come soon!
