Sister Saturation

by Panadero - December 17, 2012 7:22:56 PM MST

Our next themed update is all about sisters! First up we have the thoroughly average at best Sister Princess, including the 'let's try this again' series Sister Princess Re Pure. I came away somewhat disappointed despite my low expectations, but I don't really know what else I could have expected. A random guy tossed on an island begins living with thirteen girls claiming to be his little sisters and all are obsessed with him in different ways - and this *wasn't* based on hentai? While the first series was mostly harmless but dumb adventures with the characters, Re Pure focused more on the girls' inner thoughts which was supposed to be cuter but ended up just being creepier. This is coming from an unabashed moe fan. I loved a handful of the girls, but grateful I'm done watching it.

Next up was the surprisingly fun but also creepy Chocotto Sister, in which a boy's wish to have a sister is belatedly granted when Santa delivers a prepubescent girl to him on Christmas. This was a totally schizophrenic series. Combine fun, pretty well-written characters with good relationships and motivations with some of the most blatant loli fanservice I've seen. There'd be decent, romance-related drama followed up by a totally out of place upskirt shot of the young Choco. I liked it more than I disliked it, but I'd find it hard to recommend.

Lastly, we have the dramatic and very good Boku wa Imouto ni Koi o Suru, about a boy coming to grips with his romantic attraction to his twin sister, and her reaction upon receiving the news from him. Based on a manga, this OAV did a good job showing the emotional turmoil the two go through and the affect it has on their lives. Good stuff. There should be one more update before the end of the year, but for now 21 more characters are here for the holidays!
